English 7 - Things were crazy last week, so we are a bit behind.  We will begin working on our business letters this week. Company addresses and stamped envelopes are due on Wednesday.  We will work on Wordly Wise lesson 2 - quiz on Thursday.  Later in the week, we will begin Unit 8 on sentences.

English 8 - Wordly Wise lesson 2 this week - quiz on Thursday.  We will also be reading The Giver.  Again, I am requesting that they student DO NOT go to see the movie.  There are many differences and it would cause difficult for the study of the novel in class.  We will have a vocab quiz tomorrow on chapters 1-2 and again on Friday on chpts. 3-5.  There will be a study guide quiz on Thursday on chpts. 1-2.

English 9 - Wordly Wise lesson 2 this week - quiz on Thursday.  We will be studying some of Saki's works this week and will read  "The Open Window" and "The Interlopers".  Students will have a quiz on each.  Students will also receive a  list of AP Rhetorical devices.  They are to choose two of these devices and bring in an illustration of each on Monday.  Students will be responsible for learning and recognizing these devices throughout the year.

August 18-22, 2014

This week all classes 7th-9th will start vocabulary.  We will be using the Wordly Wise curriculum.  The quizzes will be each Thursday and are multiple choice.  There are no definition questions.  Students must know the meanings of the words and be able to apply that meaning.  Students will be asked to identify synonyms, antonyms, and appropriate situational use.  In addition, I will call out five words at random for the students to spell correctly.  Mondays students will complete exercises A-D and Tuesdays students will complete exercise E.  Exercise E must be done in complete sentences in order to count for credit.

English 7 - We will complete our unit on prepositions this week.  The test will be on Wednesday.  We will also begin working on writing a business letter.  Students are to bring in a company address for a food product that they enjoy.  NO GATORADE, please!

English 8 - Students will review the prepositions unit.  The test is on Tuesday.  We will then begin reading the novel, The Giver.  There will be vocabulary and chapter quizzes frequently with this novel.  I am asking that no student see the movie.  It would ruin the study of the novel.  We will see the movie after we read the novel.

English 9 - We will watch the movie, The Outsiders, this week.  We will be comparing the movie to the novel, and students will write a comparison essay.  We will then begin a study of the author, Saki.

English 7 - Comma Quiz on Monday; Comma test Tuesday.  We will continue our study of punctuation this week.  This unit, along with review from other units, will be our nine weeks test.  Our last vocabulary lesson will be this week.  Final quiz on lesson 28 on Thursday.

English 8 - Quiz on commas on Monday; test on Tuesday.  Wordly Wise lesson 5 is our last vocabulary unit for the year.  The final quiz is Thursday.  Nine weeks test will cover the punctuation and review from previous units.

Reading - We will read "The Case of Lady Sannox" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle this week.  The test will be Friday.

English 7 - Vocabulary lesson #27 this week.  Quiz on Thursday.  Capitalization test on Tuesday.  We will begin our unit on punctuation and commas this week.  Quiz on Friday.

English 8 - Wordly Wise lesson 4; quiz on Thursday.  Capitalization test on Tuesday.  Comma quiz on Friday.

Reading - This week we will read "The Landlady".  Test will be on Friday.

English 7 - We will study vocabulary unit 26 this week.  The quiz will be on Thursday.  We will begin our unit on capitalization.  The test on this unit will be next week.

English 8 - Wordly Wise lesson 3 with a quiz on Thursday.  We will study capitalization this week.  The test will be next week.

Reading - We will read "The Most Dangerous Game"  this week.  The test will be on Friday.  We will also review rhetorical devices particularly in conjunction with this story.

CHARACTER ED - WE WILL ATTEND THE REPUBLICAN WOMEN'S LUNCHEON THIS WEDNESDAY.  SUNDAY DRESS IS REQUIRED.
 Your person of character posters are also due on Friday.

English 7 - This week we will work on troublesome words.  We will have a quiz on the first list on Tuesday and the second list on Wednesday.  The test on this unit will be Thursday.  There will be no vocabulary lesson this week.

English 8 - We will study troublesome words this week.  Quiz on the first list (through lay/lie) will be Tuesday.  The quiz on the remaining words will be on Wednesday.  The test on this unit is on Thursday.  There will be no Wordly Wise quiz this week.

Reading - We will work on our time capsules this week.  Please bring items and photographs you wish to include on Wednesday.  Everyone owes $2.00 for the cost of supplies.

English 7 - Vocabulary lesson 24 - quiz on Thursday.  This week we will work on elements of poetry and write several different types of poems.

English 8 - Wordly Wise lesson 2 - quiz on Thursday.  We will review for SAT's this week.  We will also take one portion of the exam this Wednesday morning.

Reading - We will review TKM and prepare for the final test which will cover the entire novel.

REMINDER:  We will be going to see Noah this Friday.  We will leave school at approx. 8:45 and return at approx. 12:00.  All money is due Monday, March 31.  Anyone not paying by this date will not be able to attend.
