English 7 - We will work on adverbs this week and will finish unit 12.  Our nine weeks exam will cover this unit.  We will have a quiz on adjectives and adverbs on Wednesday and our vocabulary quiz on Thursday.  We will begin to review for the exam on Friday and into next week.  We will also have our Christmas cookie exchange next Monday.

English 7 - Our vocab quiz will be on Friday on lesson 11.  On Wednesday we will have a quiz on subject and object pronouns - know the chart.  We will continue working with pronouns this week as well as beginning to work on introductory paragraphs.

Reading - We will continue in The Giver quizzes given as necessary.

November 4, 2013

English 7 - We will finish our analysis of "The Witch" and have a test on this on Tuesday.  We will begin writing a poem - the final copy will be due on Thursday.  This is to be done solely in-class.  On Friday, we will begin Unit 11 on pronouns.  Vocabulary lesson 10 this week - quiz on Thursday.

English 8 - We will study ode and write one - the final copy will be due on Wednesday.  We will also learn to analyze a poem for rhyme and rhythm as well as literary elements.  On Friday we will begin Unit 11 on pronouns.  Vocabulary lesson 10 this week - quiz on Thursday.

Reading - We will begin our new novel this week, The Giver by Lois Lowery.  There will be several chapter and vocabulary quizzes during the week based upon our progress with the novel.

English 7 - We will continue with verbs this week working on progressive forms and perfect tenses.  There will be a quiz on the tense chart on Wednesday.  This needs to be memorized.  We will also learn irregular verb forms and will have a quiz on this on Friday.  Vocab lesson 8 this week with the quiz on Thursday.

English 8 - We will continue verbs this week working on progressive forms, perfect tenses, and future perfect tense.  Quiz on tense chart on Wednesday.   We will also learn irregular verb forms with a quiz on this on Friday and active and passive voice.  Vocab lesson 8 this week with the quiz on Thursday.

Reading - We will begin our study of Edgar Allen Poe this week.  There will be notes on his life - this will be on the test.  We will also read "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Raven".    We will have an art project on Friday - please bring colored pencils.

We will also cover unit 6 in vocabulary with the quiz on Thursday. We will also begin a writing lesson. English 8 - We will continue to edit our Red Ribbon papers. There will be a test on nouns on Tuesday. Vocabulary lesson 6 quiz will be on Thursday. Reading - We will have a test on Charlotte Doyle on Tuesday. We will also have several in-class assignments with this novel this week. We will also work on plagiarism and how it avoid it.

English 7 - This week we will begin our unit on prepositions. We will have a quiz each night this week. There will be a quiz tomorrow on words 1-10, Wednesday on 1-20 and so forth. Please ensure you are studying nightly. We will also study subject and object pronouns as well as conjunctions. English 8 - Same as above Reading 8 - We will read the short stories "Eleven" and "The Fan Club" comparing and contrasting these two works. We will have a test on Friday.

English 7 and 8 - Vocab unit 31 - quiz on Thursday.  We will spend this week preparing for our exam next week.  Please review your literary and grammar terms every night!  We will have a quiz on 1-30 on Monday and 1-38 on Tuesday.

Reading - We will read two short stories this week:  "The Mustache"  and "The Fan Club".  We will have a quiz on both of these.

Monday is Honor's Day at 10:00a.m. in the cafetorium.

May 6

English 7 and 8 - Flash cards are needed on Monday for literary and grammar definitions.  We will work on these for the next two weeks and have small quizzes several times in preparation for the exam.  We will also be reviewing for the exam - subjects and predicates, parts of speech, usage, capitalization, and punctuation.  Please spend time each day reviewing.

We will also work on vocab lesson 30.

Next Monday is awards day at 10:00a.m.

Reading - We will finish "All But my Life" and read 'The Landlady'

English 7 - There will be no vocabulary this week.  We will continue with poetry and other writing.  We will also begin our unit on punctuation - starting with end marks and commas.

Reading - We will continue reading The Giver.

Students in 7th and 8th grade will attend a program given by Holocaust survivor Max Herzel on Monday afternoon.

January 22-25

7th Grade English - We will finish our Mayor for a Day essays.  Final copies will be due to me Friday morning at 8:00.  I must have two copies. There must be a cover sheet with your name and Pike Liberal Arts PAPER CLIPPED to your paper.  Please DO NOT write your name anywhere on your paper.  The paper needs to be single-spaced, 12 point font and be only one page in length.

We will conclude our unit on pronouns.  The test will be next Monday (this is subject to change).  Our vocab unit is lesson 19.   The quiz is Friday.

English 8 - We will work on an argumentative essay this week as well as adjectives.  We will study vocab lesson 19 and have a quiz on Friday.  We will also travel to Troy University on Tuesday for a presentation on the Holocaust.

Reading - We will continue with Mockingbird.  We have a quiz on vocabulary on Tuesday and will have a study guide quiz on Wednesday or Thursday.

The eighth grade will be traveling to Troy University on Tuesday, January 22, from 9:00a.m. until 11:00a.m. to see a presentation about the Holocaust.  If you are able to drive, please let me know asap.

English 7 - This week we will be working on The Troy Mayor for a Day contest.  We will be working on this in class; however, students will  need to turn in a typed copy to me this Friday.
 We are working on vocabulary lesson 17 with a quiz on Thursday.  We will not have sentences or a paragraph with this lesson this week.  We will also continue to work on Unit 11 on pronouns.

English 8 - This we will work be working on several lessons on sentence structure and building compound-complex sentences as well as varying sentences types within a paragraph.
